Collaborative forum description

What if organisation’s pursued something other than an economic agenda?  It may appear on the surface that this is a naïve question, but it is a fundamental question about the role of organisations in our society.  This workshop examines an alternative to the capitalist market system and seeks to begin a dialogue about whether, if growth and profit are an important part of the equation, then “important for what purpose?” With the World Economy in flux and globalism under pressure from populist politicians, finding a new way to think about business and doing good is significant at this point in history. Exploring what the purpose of organisational activity is really for, The Social Organisation proposes an alternative agenda, one of Doing Good and the introduction of a new business framework – Temperatism.

Temperatism is based on the idea that humanity has the potential to co-operate, collaborate, assist and contribute to the greater good.  The questions examined in this session explore how replacing the profit motive with a Doing Good agenda makes it possible to tackle failings of modern society such as poverty, inequality, health, wellbeing, climate change, ethical and sustainability issues.  The Social Organisation offers the opportunity to leave a legacy of which organisation’s can rightly be proud, shifting business from being at the centre of society’s problems to being its saviour.
